Interesting case out of New Jersey. NPR's Jennifer Ludden reported that a New Jersey judge ruled that a biological father's presents can be excluded from a delivery room by the woman giving birth to the father's child. The judge cited the patient's right to privacy and a pregnant woman's right to control her body. The judge also indicates that women are not obligated to inform a father when they're going to labor. This of course is upsetting some fathers rights groups across the nation.
The implications for adoption cases is quite clear. The birth mother who wishes to place a child for adoption may not be required to notify the father that she is in labor. Or, that she be forced to allow the father into the delivery room against her wishes.
